Conformance status
BrickID targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as applied to iOS applications, and follows Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for accessibility.
Partial conformance — WCAG 2.1 AA
BrickID partially conforms with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. An accessibility audit was completed in April 2026 and all identified critical and high-severity issues have been resolved. Known limitations are listed below.
Accessibility features
The following accessibility features are built into BrickID:
Dynamic Type
All text in BrickID scales with your preferred text size, including the largest Accessibility sizes. No font sizes are hardcoded.
VoiceOver
All interactive elements have descriptive labels. Transient content such as error messages, notifications, and status changes is announced automatically. Colour swatches speak their colour name and selection state.
Reduce Motion
When Reduce Motion is enabled in iOS Settings, all scanning animations are suppressed and replaced with a simple static progress indicator.
Touch targets
All interactive elements meet Apple's minimum 44x44pt touch target size, including small controls and icon buttons.
Colour independence
No information is conveyed by colour alone. Colour swatches include text labels and selection indicators that are visible without colour perception.
System settings respected
BrickID respects iOS accessibility settings including Increase Contrast, Reduce Transparency, Bold Text, and Button Shapes.
How to enable accessibility features
BrickID's accessibility features work automatically based on your iOS settings. To enable them:
VoiceOver: Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver → On
Dynamic Type: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text
Reduce Motion: Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion → On
Increase Contrast: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Increase Contrast → On
Known limitations
The following limitations exist in the current version of BrickID. We are working to address these in future updates.
| Area | Limitation |
|---|---|
| Camera viewfinder | The live camera feed cannot be described to VoiceOver users in real time. The capture button is fully accessible, but the visual content of the viewfinder cannot be narrated. |
| Colour contrast | Colour contrast ratios have been designed to meet WCAG AA standards but have not been formally measured against all colour combinations in the app. A full contrast audit is planned. |
| Onboarding | Full onboarding screens are not yet implemented in this version. Accessibility of onboarding will be addressed when this feature is built. |
